Baby Boomers are travelling – a lot. So here are some Baby Boomer travel trends that your tour or activity business should know about.


Baby Boomers wouldn’t mind getting a great deal on their next trip, but it’s not a deal breaker.

How this affects your business: You don’t want to emphasize finances for Baby Boomers – Sell them the experience instead and focus on providing value rather than the lowest price.  Although Baby Boomers are looking for a good deal, they are more interested in making sure the experience is the best value for themselves and their families.

2. Bucket List Trips

Baby Boomers don’t have children at home, they have money to spend, and they want to do things for themselves.

This means finally checking off some of their bucket list items.

How does this affect your business: Your boomer clients are going to be wanting to do some pretty specific activities – And you may have to make this happen for them.

3. Summer and Weekend Travel

Boomers are taking back the weekends and love the hot summer weather.

According to AARP, nearly ⅓ of Boomers prefer to travel somewhere hot and they prefer to travel on the weekends.

How this affects your business: Think about how you can optimize your summer weekends to cater to your boomer customers. 

4. Must Have Wi-Fi

Baby Boomers love their smartphones and tablets just as much their grand kids.

According to AARP, 43% of Boomers say they will only choose hotels with free wi-fi.

What does this mean for your business: For operators who are offering hotel/land packages, you should highlight if the hotel/resort they are booking has free WIFI. If you are an activity operator, make sure your tours are mobile friendly and that your vehicles or locations offer WIFI.  You might want to consider partnering with a provider of roaming services such as Roam Mobility or KnowRoaming.

5. Family

Baby Boomers are looking to travel with their loved ones.

How does this affect your business: You have to plan trips for the whole family – This means being a little more creative with your offerings and making sure that the type of tour or activity you are offering will satisfy a variety of people including kids and adults alike.

6. Fun

According to AARP, Baby Boomers report that they laugh and smile more when they are on vacation.

How does this affect your business: It’s important to make the trip as easy and seamless as possible for your Boomer clients, so that they don’t have to stress about a thing and just have fun!
