Term used to refer to any tour that is available in a brochure or through other media. In the USA, an advertised tour specifically means an approved tour, which includes air transportation and meets specific airline requirements, to which an IT (inclusive tour) number has been assigned, and which allows travel agents to receive overriding commission in respect of the air transport element of the tour.
When used in context with tours and activities, the term means any tour offered by a tour or activity operator that is publicly available and is generally used in conjunction with the rack rate or retail rate. Discounted tours or specials may be advertised as well but are usually marked as such and provide specific terms and conditions that are different from those of the advertised tour.
